I’m Happily Married... No Joke.

April Fools Day Just Happened To Be The Soonest The Judge Could See Us.

Getting Legal

Getting married is scary easy. Ignoring all the background immigration work, just the legal act of getting married is cheap and effortless. They also didn’t check our identification at any point. I could have picked up any woman on the street and used any names we wanted, then switched women later and claimed she was my wife. No one would be the wiser.

We happened to bring along one of the necessary witnesses, but if we hadn’t the Judge’s staff would have gladly filled in. They were kind. It was simple, cheap and beautiful. I am not complaining, just surprised and a little bemused.

It is refreshing to have something so fundamental be still based in trust in a time when a cocktail of paranoia, red tape and fees is drowning the joy out of lives. On a brighter note if I ever forget our anniversary I can always say “April Fools!”

To clarify, we will have a wedding ceremony the middle of next month. So actually I could just say “Oh no dear I didn’t forget, I just thought you wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary not just the day we went before the judge.”

I am content. I got an affordable wife without much baggage. She’s a wonderful cook and everyone loves her. She can do nothing but help my life, yet something nags me. Some inner voice is gasping. *Shrug* probably nothing....
