“Uncle uncle, can I come.” A small girl chants, arms outstretched.
“Oh oh, look at you.” The uncle kneels and gives her a big hug. “Sweetie, my sister would cut off my ears. But I’ve promised that you’ll come once we’ve made sure it’s safe right? If you’re going to be a mightier tech wizard then me, you’ll have to understand ‘safety first’ right?” He laughs at her sour expression and ruffles her hair. “Well I’m off. I’ll see you around dinner time ‘kay?”
The girl nods and follows him to the door. “Safety first uncle.”
“Exactly.” He climbs on the waiting hoversled, and its driver pushes a lever forward and a foot down. They zoom away.
The driver asks. “Will we be done before dark Professor Aggen?”
“Not if we’re lucky.” He laughs, the driver doesn’t. “Oh now Tenny, you don’t think that new wife of yours wants you every night?”
“Professor are you buckled in?”
“No I….”
“Do it now please.” Tenny hears the click and then radically yanks the steering bar. The hoversled goes almost straight up, then starts to fall back down rear first. He makes another radical shift and the hoversled returns to horizontal, shaving a half inch of earth to do so. They sit there a moment not moving. Tenny grins slams on the accelerator and asks again. “So, will we be back before dark?”
“Sure Tenny. Heh, wouldn’t want to irritate my best student.”
“Assistant.”
“Bah, without a classroom the world’s my classroom.”
“So when are you going to start corrupting young minds again? It’s not like you’re obsessed with the nexgun project.”
“You haven’t forgotten little Maple have you? She’ll be replacing you a few years.”
“Family doesn’t count. Plus, I think your niece has dormant powyr. She’s slavaerkin after all.”
“Tennirath, don’t even joke about that.”
“Sorry Professor.”
--“Nexgun is online. Systems check looks good. Ready for the pyramid.”
The pyramid is inserted. The pyramid is a balance of things psi, powyr, graeyness, etc.
The gun is fired at the Wall. A hole forms that goes deeper and deeper. Suddenly a Sentinel shows up. The Professor is warned by the expression on his assistant’s face, and blindly fires the gun at the Sentinel.
The smoke quality evaporates from the Sentinel leaving behind something that looks like a giant devil. It is Baasque the daevas and he is free. He feels the mother’s net begin to grip him, says a few words then helps the net along, propelling him straight into the abyss. With portals one must travel through the myst to go anywhere.
Baasque was long ago outcast because he’d tried to absorb enough powyr from enimies and fellows alike to overcome the Mother’s net.
Now he is weak, but is altered, and knows much. He cloaks his powyr, lets his body be destroyed, then takes over a lvl 6 angel guy, then two lvl 5’s and starts a war to hide his further efforts, where he partially returns to vayha as a lidac—wraith. He wants the nexgun, because he realizes untapped potential of the pyramid inside.
