Standardized measures of attributes based on the Galactic Human Mean established by the slavaers.
- Galactic Human Mean (GHM)
- The Mean allows a range of one to a hundred. More or less means by definition that the one tested is not human. Dividing a person into attributes and developing tests to accurately measure those attributes has for millennia been left up to the organizations doing the testing. So though the idea of a Human Mean with attributes ranging from one to a hundred has survived the ages since the slavaers ruled, the actual tests and attribute definitions haven't and can vary a great deal from organization to organization.
The Melee Challenge
Fifty is the minimum passing grade. Melee is typically defined as being confused close quarters fighting amongst fully committed combatants. Fifty is considered competent. Eighty is the minimum grade to be considered an expert.
Accuracy Challenge
Thirty is the minimum passing grade. Compared to melee there is little confusion here, whether it is a surgeon's scalpel or sniper's rifle. Thirty is considered typical. Sixty is the minimum grade to be considered an expert.
Muscle Challenge
Fifty is the minimum passing grade. Thirty is considered weak. Fifty is considered fit. At sixty for the first time damage from a kick is on average noticeably greater. This continues to be true at every grade by ten higher. For a single fist this is not true until sixty five and then at every grade by fifteen higher.
Toughness Challenge
Fourty is the minimum passing grade. A grade of thirty six to forty five means that a healed body will never take more then a light injury from the examiners' soft strikes.
S & S Challenge
Fifty is the minimum passing grade. Speed/senses is an attribute area covering reflexes/initiative and the acuity of the physical senses. Consistently preforming four separate actions in six to twelve seconds is a final test that an acolyte must pass in order to become a Hutace Monk. Part of the test is achieving a zen state, applying it, charging, and finally using it. The range of six to twelve seconds is circumstance based, with six seconds being in a plain room with no distractions.
Fixity Challenge
Ninety is the minimum passing grade. Reliably achieving zen states is the best test of fixity/willpower. Achieving Form,
Will
& Motion at the same time is a final test that an acolyte must pass in order to become a Hutace Monk. Fixity/willpower is an attribute area covering the mastering of zen states. Its importance therefore is not limited to ki monks and is recognized by all who achieve and apply zen. Note, achieving a zen and acting upon that zen achieved can not be done in the same action. Also note, zen states last as long as you can concentrate—fatigue/distraction damage.
Acumen Challenge
Eighty five is the minimum passing grade. Reliably using zen skills is the best test of acumen/sagacity. Holding Vay is a final test that an acolyte must pass in order to become a Hutace Monk. Acumen/sagacity is an attribute area covering the application of zen states with specific intents. Its importance therefore is not limited to ki monks and is recognized by all who achieve and apply zen. Note, achieving a zen and acting upon that zen achieved can not be done in the same action. Also note, zen skills last as long as you can apply the relevant zen states—fatigue/distraction damage.
B & MT Challenge
Forty is the minimum passing grade. Balance/mental toughness is an attribute area covering defense of active zen states and distraction damage resistance. A grade of thirty six to forty five means that a healed mind will never take more then a light injury from distraction damage while using a single zen skill.
L & D Challenge
Seventy is the minimum passing grade. Leadership/discipline is an attribute area covering command ability and multitasking. To receive a grade of fifty one to seventy an acolyte must be able to use four zen skills simultaneously. Multitasking is tested not just with zen skills but with any combination of activities that require specific focus; for example another test is engaging in melee while watching a clock and holding Pa and Ha. A grade of seventy one to ninety means five tasks have been done simultaneously without strain. Discipline is also what enables skills to continue to be used despite distraction damage.
