Cloak of Hutace: Ki Monk Monastery

The monastery is dedicated to the patron of bodyguards, Hutace the abyssal guardian god. It is famous throughout Suncon for the "Hutace Dozen" it produces every year, who bring peace and order to the world with their bare mortal hands.

Side Notes

It is the only official human Ki Monk monastery in Oulsogn, capital of Korisun.
It has a close relationship with the state and sits within sight of the palace in the central part of the city.
It has a special arrangement with the Serrate Guild--the primary assassin guild of Korisun.

Quick Facts

Always produce twelve ki monks a year--the Hutace Dozen.
Graduate at 17-19 years old.
They must repay the monastery with 144 years of service divided among themselves.
They must fulfill this service within 36 years of graduating to be eligible for retiree benefits.

Few parents say good bye to their sons or daughters at Cloak of Hutace Monastery. Though it is a prestigious place, rarely does any renown trickle back to the family. In exchange for their son or daughter they get only a favor, protection equal to the time their child serves the monastery.

In other lands surrendering one's child to such an institution is an investment into the family's future. But as the crying mother knows, the child who stays with the Cloak of Hutace can have no family outside his/her dozen. So those parents that volunteer their children for enrollment usually are attempting to get rid of them rather then thinking altruistically of their future. In any case, children with parents are a minority at Cloak of Hutace—orphans are the rule.
