The Xbox 360 Has Landed

The seventh generation video game era has started in earnest with the 360's release this month. Next year the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Revolution will complete the transition. And I barely indirectly care.

I cling to the increasingly dated division between video and computer games. Somehow I've always seen video game consoles as depressing, but not computers used for the same purpose. It's hard to find any logic in my bias, but that makes me no less attached to it.

I love technology, but I resist it as much as I embrace it. I know part of this is based in my resentment at being formerly ahead of the curve. I like feeling special.

The new Xbox is Microsoft's gift to the people. The floodgates are open. The iPods are downloading. The masses are connected. The world is shifting online.

Here I am with my hard line typing on an open source alternative to Microsoft's Word. I squirm with pleasure wrapped in discontent at the progress of this farsee frying vice. Porn and video games drive the Internet and computer development. The sustained progress gives me great pleasure and hope for the future, while at the same time I see the color drain from our physical bodies as we get sucked into the prison of choice—never to enjoy the light of day again.

Enjoy your apples said the snake.
